There have been several strong hints that the upcoming Genesis G70 sports sedan would offer stick-shift fans something to be excited about, and now we have official confirmation that the G70 will support the #savethemanuals agenda. The EPA has released fuel-economy ratings for the 2019 G70, and indeed, a six-speed manual-transmission option is among the powertrain combinations, mated to the 252-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

We suspect that the U.S.-spec G70 will mirror its Canadian cousin in offering the six-speed only in a special rear-wheel-drive 2.0T Sport trim level that also includes a limited-slip rear differential, Brembo brakes, a head-up display, 19-inch wheels with summer tires, and 16-way power front seats. Every all-wheel-drive G70 2.0T, as well as the rear- and all-wheel-drive versions powered by the upgrade engine, a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6, comes exclusively with an eight-speed automatic.

Oh, and if you were wondering, the G70’s fuel-economy numbers range from 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined for the rear-wheel-drive, automatic-transmission four-cylinder, down to 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined for the all-wheel-drive V-6. The manual-transmission version takes a big hit compared to its automatic counterpart, dropping down to 18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

True driving enthusiasts might be willing to make this sacrifice, especially considering that the manual option puts the G70 in rarefied air among entry-luxury sedans; by our count, the only competitors to offer a clutch pedal are the Audi A4, BMW 3-series, and Cadillac ATS. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the manual G70 to see how it stacks up.
